Scholars give support to Farmers

Scholars from the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. - Young Minds Academy give their full support to the new generation heroes, the farmers, through "Kabalikan sa Kabuhayan" program. It aims to give local farmers some proper training to yield abundant and quiality crops.
 
 
Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan is a season-long training for Cebu-based farmers on vegetable farming. This program is under the supervision of the Harbest Agribusiness Corporation and jointly implemented with the Department of Agriculture Regional Offices. This training program is an intensive dual-tech hands-on training on commercial production technology for different vegetables and short-term fruits. Examples of which are melon, watermelon, cucumber, eggplant, squash, ampalaya, corn, and papaya. Its objective is to empower the knowledge of farmers to further improve their farming skills, resulting to a better income opportunities which will eventually result to alleviation f poverty.

The Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan program is currently hitting the Municipality of Consolacion, specifically at the agricultural land of Barangay Danglag. 120 farmers became trainees of the said program and 4 municipal agriculturists joined forces with the YMA Scholars in organizing the program. The program gained support from the SM Foundation Inc. for the funding of the training module, Harbest Agribusiness Corporation for the technical group, and the Municipality of Consolacion and other partner LGUs.

The training started last September 11, 2011 and will end on November 18, 2011. The farmers are expected to apply what they learned during the training to their own lands with their own resources after the program.
